Alright, I don’t know about you but I do not want the flu this year! Truthfully, I don’t want any colds at all. First I used to turn to different medications and what not to keep healthy during this season. Then I tried the vitamin C and other multivitamins to try and prepare for the inevitable. No surprise! Nothing helped at ALL. On top of it I was putting tons of things in my body that I didn’t need and weren’t natural! So pull up a seat, put your feet up, and grab a drink because we are about to discuss how I stay healthy NATURALLY!

A little background about me: I was always sick. I’m talking 2-3 sinus infections, upper respiratory infections, and so many colds during the winter. I have asthma and headaches/migraines that kick my butt. I was the type who needed 2-3 medications to feel normal. At the doctors office they joked about us just having our own personal room. I was tired of always being sick and flooding my body with all these medications. I searched for other options because the medications worked less and less each time. Either that or I traded off every couple months.
I have heard about essential oils for awhile now but for the past four months, I have been using them religiously!! Unfortunately, I have gotten a cold so far but I believe that the essential oils I have used help reduce the symptoms of a cold. My go to oils this cold season are:
Now I know these are a lot of oils however, these oils can be used for a variety of ways!
So how do these five oils help you during the cold season? These oils help boost immunity, relieve symptoms, and can be used without worrying what you are putting on yourself!
If you had to choose only one what would it be?
If you were to only get one oil out of these five, choose thieves!! Why thieves? This is my go to oil for immunity support. I created a roller for my daughter and I that we use every single night. I roll it on our spines and the bottom of our feet. Thieves essential oil is a blend of Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary. This blend of essential oil has a rich, spicy aroma reminiscent of fall.
Outside of the cold season thieves can be used in cleaning products and soaps, all the power of cleaning without the harsh chemicals and the harsh smell! Outside of cold season my favorite use of thieves is as a carpet cleanser. I mix 5 drops of thieves to baking soda and mix well. Allow the mix to sit overnight. Then sprinkle over the carpet and vacuum. Wonderful smelling carpets without the worry of chemicals.
This roller is easy to create. I use a roller bottle ordered off amazon, I choose the 10 ml bottles so I don’t have to refill often. First, I place about 4-8 drops of essential oil and then I use a carrier oil to help dilute. Then, fill with carrier to about 1/2 inch below the top. I choose avocado or fractionated coconut oil.

How these oils can help the symptoms of a cold
R.C. is great for respiratory support. R.C. essential oil blend is a powerful combination of Spruce, Cypress, and three types of Eucalyptus oils. Just two weeks ago I had a nasty cough and with asthma a nasty cough is not your friend. I rubbed some R.C. on my chest and within a few minutes I began to feel relief. My chest wasn’t as tight and I felt as if I could breathe easier.
Peppermint is great for a several symptoms. I use it mainly when I’m out and about with a headache. I apply peppermint to my temples and back of the neck for headaches. This produces a cooling effect and is great when I do not have the ability to put ice on my head. It helps relieve tension in my neck as well. I also love to use peppermint when I need focus. My last use for peppermint is for those time my nose is stopped up! I apply to my chest or below my nose to help relieve congestion.
Lemon and Lavender I use these in multiple blends. I use Lemon, Lavender and Peppermint almost daily! I have really bad allergies and I used to try many medications to keep the sneezing at bay. With this blend, my sneezing is at a minimum and makes me feel more calm and alert. Plus it smells amazing!
This blend is simple to make:
- Lavender – 2 drops
- Lemon – 2 drops
- Peppermint – 2 drops
- carrier oil
Grab those handy dandy roller bottles and add the essential oils. Next, fill with carrier oil to about 1/2 inch below the top. This way the roller insert fits without mess!
Outside of cold season Lavender and Lemon can be used in a variety of ways! Lavender I use at night especially lately. I also use Lemon to focus. I usually blend it with peppermint and I find I get a little boost and it smells amazing! Lastly, I also use this allergy blend on my dry skin patches I get during the winter. Especially when it gets so dry it burns. Ouch!
Holy Grail Use of These Oils
I am so excited guys!!! My friend just shared this recipe with me and I do not know why I didn’t do this sooner. Do you use vicks? Well you shouldn’t! Here’s why: Vick’s is made with a petroleum by-product,chemicals used to produce gasoline, diesel and jet fuel. There is also a possibility some carcinogenic agents may be present. Now, you may be thinking, I used it as a kid and I turned out fine. I’m with you on that, but now that I’m an adult I want to live as cleanly and naturally as possible especially for my child. All of that stuff in Vick’s does not sound like something we should be rubbing on ourselves or our children! Have no fear! I have a natural and effective alternative that not only relieves congestion but it helps boost immunity! Plus it’s super easy to make! Say goodbye to Vicks and hello to the ultimate cold rub!
All natural Cold Rub Recipe:
- get a small jar
- fill with coconut oil
- 5 drops of Peppermint
- 5 drops of R.C.
- 4 drops Lemon
- 4 drops Thieves
- stir together and Voila!
